Charlize Theron has great Earrings

Do you have a favorite movie which stars Charlize Theron? Not really sure what mine is, but I do have a few favorite jewelry looks of hers.  I’ve noticed she wears the best earrings.  Check them out below, along with similar earrings so you can get her red carpet looks.

1stdibs

This look is elegant and formal–the earrings are dripping in diamonds that are very Art Deco in a drop style. These are very similar, done in platinum from the 1920s with 76 diamonds total. From John Salibello Jewelry, featured at 1stdibs and priced at $6800.

Here Charlize Theron is dressed down with some fun gold stud earrings. These are 14k yellow gold by Lena Wald, found at Aloha Rag. They come in three different sizes, the medium is priced at $175 for one.

ct2
beladora

Black onyx drop earrings are always so chic. The similar pair is from Beladora and are done in 18k white gold with diamonds and onyx. These are characterized with so much detail and are priced at $995.

ct3
delamina

Charlize Theron looks great with this style of earrings–it consists of a large cushion cut gemstone with surrounded by diamonds. I like the chunkiness of the look, with our choice being more radiant with a dark plum garnet. These earrings are 18k yellow gold designed by Dov Padeh and can be found at Delamina, price: $2200

Glimpse into the Past: Drop Earrings & Pearl Choker

09/12/2009

katharinecornell

Drop earrings and a pearl choker–a classic combination, seen here on Katharine Cornell circa 1930s. I like how her necklace showcases a large, bezel set Mabe pearl, rather than just being a plain strand.  The drop earrings in the photo feature three pearls, graduating in size.  Below are some choices that would allow you to mimic this look!

pearl_necklace

This vintage pearl necklace is so alluring, with its triple strands and eye-catching center piece. That central decor is comprised of 18k yellow gold and a large Mabe pearl. This piece is from the 1950s from Fay Cullen, price: $2600.

pearldangleearrings

Love the charm of these drop earrings. Although the inspiration photo features three somewhat large pearls in the drop, these earrings are done on more of a smaller scale. They still are gorgeous–done in platinum and 18k yellow gold. There is a pearl at the top and three diamonds below, all same sizes. The buttercup settings on the diamonds are just so adorable. From Lang Antiques, price: $2950.

Glimpse into the Past: Large, Button Earrings

08/28/2009

tippihedren

Nothing is prettier than having your hair pulled back, showing off a pair of large, button earrings. And in this case, size does matter, because the perfect look is having them about the same size as your ear lobe. A nice round pair, featuring pearls, coral, or enamel are great choices. Actress of the 1960s Tippi Hedren is seen above portraying this look exactly.

beladoraa

These earrings are 18k yellow gold and embellished in enamel, with center diamonds. They are from Beladora, and are contemporary–black, white and gold is a classic color combination. Price: $995

b2

Mabe pearls are perfect for the round, button earring look. These are done in 14k yellow gold, at a great price of $295 at Beladora2. The color of these are described as a bronzy grey and are circa 1980.

beladora

Designed by Van Cleef & Arpels, these button earrings are done in a rare natural coral, which is such a pretty color. This pair was purchased by Beladora from a prominent California estate, and is now for sale for $4250. Circa 1980, a necessary designer collector’s piece for any jewelry collection.

Spotted: Sienna Miller’s Wing Earrings

08/15/2009

With the premier of movie G I Joe, some promoting has been in the works for a few weeks.  On August 4th, 2009 some of the cast rang in the opening bell at New York’s Stock Exchange, in NYC. Sienna Miller flashed some eye-catching winged earrings in yellow gold. They take up her entire earlobe! I kind of like them, however I am unaware of the designer. Anyone know who designed these wing earrings?

**Update** the designer is Jessica Robinson

Best Jewelry: 2009 Teen Choice Awards

08/10/2009

 4f74da19a8172f7d_Leighton-Meester

Although I’m not a teenager anymore, I guess watching the Teen Choice Awards keeps you feeling younger.  Unfortunately almost everyone’s jewelry choices were extremely minimal.  I felt Leighton Meester stood out, not only with her dress but her jewelry choices.  The earrings are by designer Cathy Waterman.  I’ve featured her Love of my Life Collection before, however these earrings worn by Leighton Meester are done in rubies.  Here they are below!

If I were a stylist, I think Elisa Solomon’s microphone ring is the best choice for an event like this.  Whether you are a singer first and foremost, or just dream of being on stage singing—this is such a fun find.  I like how diamonds make up the portion you talk into.  It is done in 18k yellow gold and priced at $603.

The bush birds
peek
their heads through
your boat-like
blossoms.

South African winds
convulse your confident
stalks and as they
whip around,
birdwatchers search frantically
for their binoculars.

As the sun climbs
you patiently wait for
a winged friend

continue your reign

The coolness of nightfall

Glimpse Into the Past: Star Settings

04/25/2009

nataliewood2

A star setting is a type of setting where a gemstone is placed in the center of an engraved star, secured by metal added to the star points.  This type of setting was popular throughout the 1900s, into the retro period and even into the 80s.  Although this kind of setting can easily look tacky, there are many versions that are beautiful.  Some great examples are below.  Do you like the star setting?

ruby1

This wide band is done in 14k yellow gold, with ten star set rubies. A great gift idea for anyone with a significance in the number ten–10th anniversary maybe?  Priced at $985 from Doyle & Doyle.

3graces

Known as a “gypsy” ring circa 1910, this ring features two sapphires and a diamond, all star set. The three-stone ring style is always a favorite.  Priced at $2550 from The Three Graces.

sta

Also from The Three Graces are these earrings. Each has a .03 diamond that is star set in 10k and 14k yellow gold. These are a definite spin on classic diamond studs. Priced at $525.

For those who prefer white gold, this diamond star set band is great. All done in 14k white gold with very clean diamonds. Priced at $1400 from Doyle & Doyle.

Obsession: Emerald Cut Earrings

04/22/2009

The Emerald Cut has always been a favorite of mine, especially when it comes to earrings.  It compliments the face and adds that extra pop of style.  Anyone and everyone has a pair of round diamond studs, but a pair of Emerald cut diamond studs?  That is another story!

Check out some of the amazing vintage finds featuring Emerald Cut earrings.  Since this style was popular during the Retro Era, most are from that time period.

aq

This pair features large emerald cut aquamarines, totaling over 10 carats! The added diamonds on top give the illusion, to me at least, that there is a tiny bow on top. These are from the 80s although they look very retro. Priced at $1450 from Beladora.

1209862873_20-3-1481

Citrine is a classic retro gem. This pair of earrings even has the 18k rose gold, which was popular during the 30s. From Lang Antiques and priced at $495, with over 10 carats of citrine–so pretty!

fnjeao;

Another pair of aquamarine earrings, but this time a lot smaller. These come from Doyle & Doyle and are priced at $450. The gold scrollwork is beautiful and it gives away what time period they are from.

Trend Spotting: Flower Power!

03/09/2009

Earrings can really make a difference in an outfit or a look.  There are so many styles to choose from: hoop, dangle, stud, chandelier… you can go bold or dainty, gemstone or gold.  More overwhelming than you thought?

Well, one trend that has a unique look is a bold flower, which nearly covers your entire earlobe.   This actually catches your eye and draws your attention to the face.  It looks great with your hair up or down, and really balances your entire look.   Less jewelry worn in other places is usually a good idea when wearing earrings this bold.  Don’t have your ears pierced or don’t like earrings?  I have a great option for you too!  Check out below.

Vintage Tiffany & Co. from 1960, with ten rubies totaling .33 carats and two diamonds, total. These can be purchased from the Ross-Simons Estate Collection for $1276.

And for those who do not have pierced ears or like earrings? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Show some flower power with this amazing necklace designed by Elisa Solomon. The daisy is front and center, all in 18k yellow gold and diamonds for $909. Making the necklace even more special is the ancient beads that are used. How could you have a bad day wearing this?!

Designer Spotlight: Tina Tang

02/28/2009

Anyone who has the guts to quit a job on Wall Street must have some big dreams, a creative brain, and a daring edge to them. This combination is what led Tina Tang to making her dream of designing jewels into a reality several years ago. Today, her work has been featured in countless magazines and dazzled on celebrities. Worth the risk, right?!

Her style is unique and I especially love her description, “classics with a twist” because it is literally just that! Texture is lovely in all aspects–fashion, home decor, art–and this can be seen in her jewelry line. I love the twisting of the gold, it gives her jewelry a nautical, luxurious feel to it.

Check out some of my favorites from her collection below. Read up on what is going down at her NYC studio and everyday life here on her blog.

So Jaded…

01/31/2009

These beautiful pieces of jewelry featuring jade will never leave you feeling jaded. The combination of white gold or platinum with jade, whether it is a cabochon or carved, is just so pretty to me. Owning a piece of jade jewelry is necessary for any jewelry enthusiast. Check out the lovely vintage picks below!

jiwio

American made, vintage from the 1920s–these beautiful carved jade earrings are set in platinum and diamonds. Bring the roaring twenties back when wearing these, fitted with original screwbacks that were popular then. From Lawrence Jeffrey Estate Jewelers and priced at $3800.

sdki

From the Edwardian Period come these platinum, diamond and jade earrings. I love the bow motif that was always seen during this time period, and having it paired with the jade is even more interesting. Priced at $9000 from Meriwether.

1224186991_20-1-1032

These vintage jade earrings have the carved jade style that I love. I like the subtle etching with the tiny holes, gives it a great, almost delicate look. I’ve never seen jewelry done in platinum over 18k yellow gold, but here is the first example! Priced at $2450 from Lang Antique & Estate Jewelry.

The Katie Diamond Jewelry collection is full of pieces that are versatile and have great craftsmanship that will last from generation to generation.  Each necklace, ring or earrings will make an elegant statement when you wear them, needing no other jewelry at all.  The designer of Katie Diamond Jewelry studied goldsmithing and turned her hobby into her very own jewelry line.  The best way to describe her line is a juxtaposition of old and new styles with both eastern and western influences.  Check out her website where you can buy direct and check out my favorites below!

Stud Muffin

11/09/2008

jrfk

Whether it’s your handbag, heels, belt or jacket, studs are in!  Now you can take this trend and wear it on your ears.  Jewelry designer Lena Wald has created these stud earrings, that come in different sizes (small, medium and large), different color gold (white or yellow), and with or without diamonds.  Each are priced individually, so you can purchase only one if you’d like.  One stud would be perfect if you have one ear having more holes than another.  I think it would look neat to have three studs in both ears–a small, medium and large.  That would get expensive though ($1330 to be exact!)  Prices are: $125 for one small, $175 for one medium, and $365 for one large.  The diamond encrusted studs are: $630 for one small.  They can be purchased at Aloha Rag.

Ross-Simons Holiday Preview is here!

10/08/2008

rh8_fc1

Holiday catalogs are already circulating and Ross-Simons is not skimping on all the goodies this year! So many great choices in the holiday preview, whether you want gold, diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, or rubies under your tree. I have a few favorites of my own…they are shown below. If you are a fan of Ross-Simons, let me know about your shopping experience and your jewelry purchases. Do you have any holiday favorites?

273528

Anything personalized makes a great holiday gift, and since monograms and name plates are very trendy, these make the perfect pair of earrings. They are done in 14k yellow gold. Pricetag is $315, but sales do run often, so be on the lookout.

282760

Snake rings are necessary. This is probably the cutest one out there right now. I bought a snake ring on eBay and was very disappointed and returned it. It was so huge, it scaled down to my knuckle and up half my finger. This one looks like it would fit perfectly, while continually being timeless. This one is priced at $236 and is 14k white gold and diamonds.

294750

Don’t these earrings look like they are vintage, art deco? They are actually not vintage, but they have a great vintage style to them. Onyx, coral and diamonds combined with white gold make these new earrings seem like a peek into the past. They dangle 1.75 inches and are priced at $175.

Will you find any of these under your tree this year?
